Padma Bridge, a symbol of Bangladesh’s pride and capability, has ushered in a new chapter of this dream bridge. On Monday at 2 pm, the Automatic Electronic Toll Collection System (ETC) was officially inaugurated. As a result of this groundbreaking step, vehicles will no longer have to stand in long lines to pay the toll, which will ensure traffic-free crossing on both sides of the bridge. Padma Bridge in the pages of history Padma Bridge is not just a bridge, it is a reflection of the dreams and emotions of millions of Bangladeshis. This huge infrastructure built with its own funds is a unique example of the country’s capability. Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina officially inaugurated the Padma Bridge on June 25, 2022. Through this, direct road connectivity was established with 21 districts in the southwestern part of the country, including the capital Dhaka, and other parts of the country. This has brought a new momentum to the country’s economic growth and development. It has brought the dream of traffic-free crossing to come true. Traffic congestion has been a major problem at the Padma Bridge toll plaza for a long time. Especially on holidays, it used to take hours to cross the long queue of vehicles. The ETC system was introduced to solve this problem. In this system, all vehicles that have Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags attached will be read by an automatic scanner as soon as they reach the toll plaza. The prescribed toll will be paid automatically from the bank account or digital wallet linked to the vehicle. The entire process is so fast that the driver does not have to stop the vehicle. The gate will open immediately after the toll is paid, allowing the vehicle to proceed smoothly. A new milestone on the path to Digital Bangladesh Today’s inauguration is not just a new method of toll collection, it is an important step by the government towards building a Digital Bangladesh. On the one hand, the ETC system will save time and energy, and on the other hand, it will make the toll collection process more transparent. This proves how modern technology can simplify the management of large infrastructure. Authorities said that all vehicles will be brought under this digital system in phases. This will make the transportation system between Mawa in Munshiganj and Naodoba in Shariatpur and the southern region easier and save time over this main bridge in the country.
