2 arrested including Chinese national on charges of human trafficking in Kendua
Kendua Police Station has arrested two people including 1 Chinese national on suspicion of involvement in human trafficking in Kendua district. Three more people have been rescued at the same time.The arrested Chinese national is Li Wei Hao Md. Faridul Islam, an associate of . He is the son of Abdul Hanif Mia of Sukhdev Paschimpara village in Rajarhat upazila of Kurigram. The rescued people are Alfa Akhter (18), daughter of Rubel Mia of Kamalpur in Kendua upazila; Liza Akhter (20), daughter of Mohar Uddin of Mozafarpur union in the same upazila; and Brishti Akhter (17) of Gopi Nadi village in Melanda upazila of Jamalpur. The Additional Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) of Netrokona gave this information in a press release around 1:30 pm on Monday (September 15). He said that a Chinese national named Li Wei Hao married Alpha Akhter (18), a garment worker from Kamalpur area of Kendua municipality in Netrokona, on September 1. He will leave for China by plane on September 20 and the Chinese national verbally assured him of paying one lakh rupees to marry Alpha Akhter and take her to China. Alpha Akhter will leave for China on September 20 with Alpha Akhter. With this aim, Alpha Akhter came to visit her house in Kamalpur village under Kendua police station to meet her family and show her Chinese husband. A Bangladeshi named Faridul Islam (suspected broker) and two other girls came with them. One of the two girls initially claimed that another Chinese national married Brishit, a girl from Jamalpur, on September 14. Another girl was also with her. Alfa Akhter’s family members wanted to see the passport number and valid documents during their stay in Bangladesh during a conversation with Alfa Akhter’s husband, a Chinese citizen. The Chinese citizen could not show it. Moreover, their Bangladeshi associate could not provide any satisfactory answers or valid documents. When Alfa Akhter’s family members became suspicious, they were detained and informed to Kendua Police Station. Upon receiving the information, the police arrived at the scene and initially interrogated the Chinese citizen and Bangladeshi associate Faridul Islam. Since their conversation was suspicious during the interrogation, they were detained for interrogation and brought to Kendua Police Station custody. The police official said that legal action is under process in this regard.
