2 smugglers arrested with 90,000 yaba pills in separate operation by BGB 64 in Cox’s Bazar

In two separate special operations in one day, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB)’s Ukhia Battalion, 64 BGB, recovered 90,000 (ninety thousand) Yaba tablets. On September 4, at 5:30 (five and a half) hours, on the instructions of BGB 64 Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Jasim Uddin, PSC, on September 4, based on secret information, a special patrol team of Palangkhali BOP under Ukhia Battalion (64 BGB) located approximately 3.5 km northeast of border pillar BD 18 and approximately 02 km east of BOP inside Bangladesh at a place called Katakhal Beribadh. At that time, two suspects from Myanmar entered Bangladesh by swimming in the Naf River, and BGB members advanced towards them. At that time, the smugglers, sensing the presence of the BGB, quickly fled and before the smugglers could escape, they threw a polythene-like packet into the middle of the Keora garden. Later, a search of the scene found 03 airtight cuts totaling 30,000 (thirty thousand) pieces of Yaba tablets. However, despite a long search, no other illegal items were found. Similarly, on September 4, Border Guard Bangladesh 64 BGB conducted a separate anti-drug operation in Ukhia, Cox’s Bazar and arrested 2 drug traffickers with 60,000 pieces of Yaba.
The arrested accused are Md. Yakub Ali (28), son of the deceased Abdul Nabi, a resident of Hoaykyong Union in Teknaf Upazila, and Abdul Karim (24), son of Kabir Ahmed, a resident of Shahparirdwip Dakshin Para area in Sabrang Union.
At 11:15 pm, Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Jasim Uddin, PSC, commander of the 64th Battalion BGB in Ukhia, confirmed the matter.
He said that on September 4 at 5 pm, based on secret information, a special patrol team of the Palangkhali BOP under the Ukhia Battalion (64 BGB) located at a place called Katakhal Beribadh inside Bangladesh, approximately 3.5 kilometers northeast of border pillar BD 18 and approximately 2 kilometers east of the BOP.
At approximately 5:30 PM, two suspects from Myanmar entered Bangladesh by swimming in the Naf River and BGB members approached them. At that time, the smugglers, sensing the presence of the BGB, quickly fled and threw a polythene-like packet in the middle of the Keora garden. Later, a search of the scene revealed 3 airtight packages containing a total of 30,000 pieces of Yaba tablets. However, despite a lengthy search, no other illegal items were found.
In addition, on the same day at 7:30 pm, based on a secret information, a special patrol team of Hoi Kong BOP under Ukhia Battalion 64 BGB stopped at a place called Shukur Kati Karengaghona, approximately 1.7 km northeast of BRM 18, inside Bangladesh. At approximately 8:10 pm, when two suspicious people from Myanmar were seen entering Bangladesh, the smugglers sensed the presence of the BGB and tried to escape. The patrol team arrested Md. Yakub Ali (28), father: deceased: Abdul Nabi, mother: deceased: Maryam Khatun, village and post office: Hoi Kong, Thana: Teknaf and 2. Abdul Karim (24), father: Kabir Ahmed, mother: Monowara Begum, village: Shahaparir Dwip Dakshin Para, post office: Sabrang, Thana: Teknaf. Later, the patrol team was able to recover 30,000 pieces of Yaba tablets wrapped in polythene from them. Later, a more detailed search of the area was conducted, but no more goods were found.
Lieutenant Colonel Jasim Uddin further said that intelligence surveillance has been increased to identify and bring fugitive drug dealers under the law. Legal action is being taken against the recovered Yaba tablets and the arrested accused and their transfer to Ukhia and Teknaf police stations is in the process.
Meanwhile, the BGB is not only firmly in the border guarding but also in the fight against smuggling and drugs. Such operations will continue in the future as well.”
It is worth mentioning that the Ukhia Battalion (64 BGB), which is responsible for the Ramu sector of Cox’s Bazar region, has been achieving success in maintaining border security and suppressing various illegal activities including drugs for a long time. The Ukhia Battalion (64 BGB) is always ready to restore peace and confidence among the people of Ukhia and Teknaf in all these anti-drug operations.
