A group is spreading propaganda and defamatory information through Facebook in an attempt to hinder the anti-crime activities of the Cox’s Bazar Tourist Police. The officials concerned are being defamed through intentionally misleading posts and trolls. Tourist police said that several general diaries (GDs) have already been filed in this regard, and preparations are underway to file a case if necessary. Mahmud, head of the Cox’s Bazar region of the Tourist Police, said, “A group is systematically trying to disrupt our activities.” Our officials are being personally attacked by spreading false and fabricated information through social media. We are taking the matter seriously and are taking legal action. “No matter what obstacles come, our campaign against criminals will continue.” According to reliable sources, the accused Facebook user has previously tried to extort money from various government officials by bullying them on Facebook. The administration is already keeping an eye on the matter. Additional DIG of the Tourist Police, Apel Mahmud, said, “The gang has demanded extortion not only from the Tourist Police but also from officials of several other government agencies.” “We are analyzing their past activities and connections and taking necessary legal action.” The relevant Facebook posts and IDs are currently under monitoring. The administration is considering taking action under the Digital Security Act, defamation laws, and cybercrime laws. Tourist Police has urged the general public not to be misled by rumors and false propaganda on social media. At the same time, if anyone is a victim of such propaganda or receives information, they are requested to report it to the relevant authorities. Caution and Awareness: Obstructing the activities of government institutions or spreading false information is a punishable offense. The tourist police have repeatedly said that no one is above the law.
