The bi-annual election of the Sunamganj Reporters’ Unity has been completed. In the election, Shams Shamim was elected as President and Md. Jasim Uddin as General Secretary. On Sunday, August 31, voting took place in a festive atmosphere from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Sunamganj Reporters’ Unity’s own office. After the peaceful completion of the voting, the Election Commission announced the results. Shams Shamim, the Sunamganj district correspondent of the Daily Kaler Kantho, was elected President with 23 votes, while Md. Jasim Uddin, the district correspondent of Daily Amar Desh, was elected General Secretary with 25 votes.

During the election, Sunamganj Deputy Commissioner Dr. Mohammad Elias Mia visited the polling center.

Following the announcement of the results, voters expressed their satisfaction, saying: “Through a fair and peaceful election, we are happy to have chosen the leadership we prefer.”
After being elected, President Shams Shamim told journalists: “This is not just my victory, but a victory for all journalists of Sunamganj. I will try my best to uphold the dignity of the Reporters’ Unity and ensure the rights of journalists.”

Colleagues expressed their expectations that the newly elected committee will play a responsible role and take effective initiatives to enhance the standard of professional journalism.
