Bangladesh Shipping Agents Association (BSAA) has demanded a reconsideration of the decision to reduce the number of geared and gearless ships at Chittagong Port.

In a letter sent by the organization to the Chairman of the Port Authority, it was said that although they had already given their written opinions against the proposal to reduce ships, due importance was not given to them. In this context, their two letters sent on July 24 and July 31, 2025 were mentioned. They claimed that their representatives did not agree to the decision regarding the reduction of ships in the meeting held on July 20. Then, in an emergency meeting on July 30, the member ship operators discussed in detail and opposed the reduction of ships on logical grounds.
The letter also mentioned that recently, the berthing delays of ships at the port have reduced a lot. If the conventional ship management and operation is continued, the situation will improve further. Therefore, they believe that there is no logical reason for reducing ships in the current situation. The port authority has also called some operators personally, which is tantamount to undermining the association.

Association  reiterated its stand on this issue in its letter dated 31-07-25 and urged the port authority to reconsider its decision.
In the letter of BSSA to the port authority dated 31, it was stated that it was not possible for BSAA to provide information on the reduction of 15 ships from the number of ships allowed to call at Chittagong port. It was stated that the berthing problem was mainly due to administrative and equipment reasons.
