Mobile court raids against illegal dredger trade in Louhjung

A fine of 1.5 lakh taka has been collected and collected in a mobile court operation against illegal dredger trade in Bablatala, Ward No. 1 of Kumarbhog Union in Louhajang Upazila of Munshiganj. The operation was conducted on Wednesday afternoon under the leadership of Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Mobile Court Executive Magistrate Abdullah Al Imran. On the instructions of Upazila Executive Officer Md. Nesar Uddin, police, Ansar and land office officials participated in the operation. Locals alleged that amid the rising waters of the Padma River and the threat of erosion, the business of illegally extracting sand using dredgers and filling cropland was being carried out. Several media outlets have issued death threats to a journalist who published a report on the issue, giving it strong emphasis. Within just three hours of the threat to journalists, the administration took swift action and destroyed the illegal dredger bed and pipe of Jasim Kawra and Nannu Kawra on the banks of the Padma River in Bablatala. Those arrested in the raid are: 1. Motaleb: Fined 25,000 taka, in default of payment, 20 days in prison. 2. Md. A. Salam: Fine of 25 thousand taka, in default of payment 20 days imprisonment. 3. Md. Joynal Abedin: Fine of 1 lakh taka, in default of payment 30 days imprisonment. They were released after paying the fine. The main culprits, Jasim Kawra and Nannu Kawra, could not be arrested as they fled. Assistant Commissioner (Land) Abdullah Al Imran said, “The administration’s strict stance against the illegal dredger trade will continue.” No one will escape the law by threatening journalists.
