First Moot Court Competition Held at CoU Law Department

The Department of Law at Comilla University (CoU) successfully hosted the final round and certificate-giving ceremony of its inaugural Moot Court Competition, organized by the Moot Court Society. The event took place on Thursday (August 14) at 3 PM in the virtual classroom of the university’s administrative building, featuring two undergraduate teams. Certificates were awarded to all participating teams at the conclusion of the competition. CoU Vice-Chancellor and Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Dr. Md. Haydar Ali, attended as the chief guest. Special guests included Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Masuda Kamal, Treasurer Prof. Dr. Mohammad Solaiman, Joint District and Sessions Judge of Cumilla District Court Md. Imam Hasan, and Senior Judicial Magistrate Anowar Hossain Sagor. The program was presided over by Assistant Professor Md. Ali Murshed Kazem, Head of the Law Department. Law Department Student Advisor, Assistant Professor Md. Sohrab Hossain, praised the active participation of students, stating that involvement in constructive activities like mooting, sports, debate, and music generally keeps students away from misconduct. He encouraged students to engage more in such creative programs to avoid disciplinary issues. Treasurer Prof. Dr. Mohammad Solaiman commended the event for presenting an academic demonstration of court practices in Bangladesh, expressing appreciation for the hard work of the participants. Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Masuda Kamal emphasized the link between justice, law, and discipline, urging students to develop both substantive and normative rationality to ensure that their actions always align with truth and justice. Chief Guest Prof. Dr. Md. Haydar Ali lauded the initiative and suggested expanding it to an inter-university level with administrative and financial support, which would foster professional skills and networking among students. In his closing remarks, Department Head Md. Ali Murshed Kazem described the day as a moment of pride for the department, noting the collective effort behind the successful event and announcing plans for more significant programs in the future.
