Police have solved the mystery of the murder of former Chhatra Dal leader Abdur Rahim Rafi (26) in Siddheshwarpur village of Rahimpur union in Kamalganj upazila of Moulvibazar. The younger brother of the deceased has been arrested in this incident. He asked his brother for 500 taka for his hand money, while the elder brother scolded him without giving him the money. As a result, the 16-year-old younger brother confessed to brutally stabbing and slitting the throat of his older brother Rafi. Later, upon receiving information, the police recovered the body with its throat slit from the victim’s house. In this incident, the victim’s mother, Monowara Begum, has filed a murder case with Kamalganj Police Station as the plaintiff, Case No. 05, Date 10/08/2025, Section 302/34 of the Penal Code. To unravel the mystery of the murder, a team from the police station including Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops) Noble Chakma, Assistant Superintendent of Police of Srimangal Circle Anisur Rahman and OC of Kamalganj Police Station Abu Afar Md. Mahfuzul Kabir visited the scene and initially started an investigation to identify the cause of the murder and the accused. The deceased’s younger brother Rana (pseudonym, age 16) was taken into police custody for questioning on the same day (August 9) due to the suspicious nature of the secret source, information technology, and the statements and behavior of the local residents. Later, the deceased was interrogated based on information provided by his wife and people around him. At one point during interrogation yesterday (August 10), he confessed to stabbing his brother to death in his sleep. During interrogation, he said that the day before the incident, i.e. on August 8, at around 8 pm, he asked his brother, the deceased Rafi, for 500 taka. Rafi abused and mistreated his younger brother without giving him money. This incident made him angry with his elder brother. The next day, Saturday (August 9), the killer woke up at 7 am and saw that his mother and brother’s wife were not at home. All the doors of Rafi’s house were also open. Rafi was asleep – taking this opportunity, out of anger at his brother for the incident the previous night, the victim stabbed Rafi repeatedly in the neck while he was sleeping with a sharp knife kept under the bed. Later, the killer washed and cleaned the younger brother’s body in the basin used in the murder and put it back under the bed, and also put the blood-stained lungi he was wearing under the bed. After the incident, he left the house and resumed his normal activities. However, this is not the only reason behind the murder. The deceased Rafi’s father had a dream that his younger son Rana (pseudonym) would study in a madrasa and become a scholar. But Rana was indifferent to his studies. After Rafid’s father died, Rafid, as the older brother, was the younger brother’s guardian. Rafi wanted his younger brother to study at the madrasa instead of at home. But his brother stayed at home more than at the madrasa. For these reasons, as a guardian, the older brother Rafi often disciplined his younger brother, but he could not accept the elder brother’s discipline. Again, the deceased elder brother Rafi fell in love and married against the wishes of his family. None of Rafi’s family or relatives were in favor of this marriage. There is also information about some tension between Rafi’s mother and brother with Rafi’s wife over this issue since their marriage. Even after so many years of marriage, this has not become normal. There are often reports of family unrest with the brother-in-law and brother-in-law. Over time, anger towards the elder brother increases over these issues. Which ultimately ended in murder. Based on the information he provided, the knife used in the murder and his blood-stained lungi were recovered from under the bed in his room.
