A human chain was held demanding the construction of an 8-kilometer embankment and road from Nogua to Dheutukon Bazar in Ward No. 9 of Kakairgara Union in Durgapur Upazila of the district. The villagers of Chakpara, Dheutukon, Kailati, Nayapara and Ganda Ber organized this human chain program at Dheutukon Bazar on Sunday afternoon. He spoke, portraying the suffering and misery of the people during the human chain. Md. Mustaq Ahmed, Alamgir Hossain, rural doctor Md. Shafiqul Islam, ninth grade students Tora Rani, Pushpa Rani Barman, Md. Kausar, Md. Shahid Mia and Abu Shahid, among others, spoke on behalf of the locals. Speakers at the human chain said that the people of Chakpara, Dheutukon, Kailati, Nayapara and Ganda Ber villages have been living in extreme suffering for a long time. The continuous erosion of the Kangsha River has made the road along the riverbank unusable. As a result, people in this region are deprived of getting fair prices for their produce as they cannot easily market it. It is becoming extremely difficult for pregnant women to get to local hospitals if they suddenly fall ill. During the rainy season, boys and girls are unable to go to school and madrasas. The speakers strongly demanded that the interim government immediately build embankments along the river banks and paved roads for the movement of the people to alleviate the extreme suffering of the people of the five villages.
