3 Held for Attempted Smuggling at Chattogram Port (NSI), Port Security Seize 840kg of Raisins from Seal-less Container

Rakib Uddin,CTG, July 31 — Three individuals were detained while attempting to smuggle imported goods from the New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) at Chattogram port late on Tuesday, officials confirmed yesterday.

The detainees were identified as Md Nazmul Hossain Bhuiyan, son of Nurul Amin Bhuiyan of Bacha Mia Road in Pahartali; Nur Mohammad, son of Nurul Amin from Pal Kot in Cumilla’s Laksam; and Md Abbas, son of Md Shahabuddin of West Char Lakshya’s Moulovi Para under Karnaphuli Police Station.

According to a press release issued by Omar Faruk, secretary of the Chattogram Port Authority (CPA), a joint team of National Security Intelligence (NSI) and the port’s security division apprehended the trio around 11:00 pm on July 29.

Authorities discovered a seal-less container at the NCT delivery point without any valid assignment. A subsequent search of a nearby covered van and the surrounding area led to the recovery of 84 cartons of raisins weighing around 840 kilograms, which were not declared under any consignment.

CPA officials said that necessary legal actions are being initiated against those involved in the attempted smuggling.
