Marijuana has been recovered from Room 307 of Kazi Nazrul Islam Hall at Comilla University (CoU). The illegal substances were discovered in a drawer of a table during a raid conducted by the hall provost around 12:30 AM on Monday night (July 28).
Earlier, around 11:30 PM, three students present in the room were questioned and sent for a dope test after they raised suspicion during the provost’s inspection.
The accused students are Robiul Awal Robin, a resident of Room 307 at Kazi Nazrul Islam Hall, and Sabuj, a resident of Shaheed Dhirendranath Dutta Hall. Both are students of the 2019-20 session from the Department of Finance and Banking. Another individual involved is Said Uddin Ahmed (Anas), a student from the Department of Management Studies (2019-20 session), who had previously been expelled due to drug use.
According to eyewitnesses, the hall provost initiated the raid following allegations that drug users were staying in the hall. During questioning, marijuana was initially found outside the room. Subsequently, the provost conducted a second search inside the room, suspecting that more substances might be hidden. During the search, marijuana and a used bullet were recovered from a drawer in the table.
Accused student Robin claimed, “We are not involved in drugs. As our semester exam is scheduled for the 6th, we were just studying and chatting with a friend.”
Regarding the marijuana found in the room, he said, “While we were away for the dope test, someone else might have planted it there.”
However, eyewitness accounts and the provost’s statement contradict his (Robin’s) claims. According to the provost, he personally searched the room due to suspicious behavior and discovered the drugs himself.
Hall Provost Md. Harun stated, “We didn’t find drugs on them at first, but their behavior was inconsistent. This led us to search the room again, where we recovered marijuana.”
When asked about the hall administration’s stance on the matter, the provost said, “The room has been locked for now. Tomorrow, we will forward the issue to the Proctorial Body for investigation and further action.”
