Chhatra Shibir’s protest march in Chittagong Metropolitan City
Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir, Chittagong Metropolitan City North Branch, organized a protest march to protest extortion, terrorism, anarchy and attacks on students.
On Wednesday (July 23), the protest march started from the premises of Kapasgola Jame Mosque in Chittagong and circled various roads of the city and ended with a short speech in front of the Alikhan Mosque.
Chattogram Metropolitan City North Secretary Mominul Haque Momin moderated the post-march rally, while Chhatra Shibir Chittagong Metropolitan City North President Tanjir Hossain Jewel and Chittagong Metropolitan City South President Ibrahim Hossain Rony addressed the gathering.
In his speech as the chief guest, Tanzir Hossain Jewel said, “The slogans that fascists used to give in the past, yesterday Chhatra Dal introduced neo-fascism with the same slogan. They have extorted businessmen across the country and annoyed them. On the 21st, they attacked our brothers with domestic weapons and seriously injured them for protesting extortion.”
Warning those who were chanting ‘Bangla chad’ slogans under the banner of Chhatra Dal—Jamaat-Shibir-Rajakar—at this moment, he added, “Those who had announced to leave Bengal a few days ago are the ones who have left Bangladesh and are sitting in Delhi today. He further warned that if anarchy and terrorist activities continue like this, they will have to face tougher consequences than Chhatra League-Awami League.”
Speaking as a special guest, Mahanagar South President Ibrahim Hossain Rony said, “The July Revolution was not a movement against fascism only because of 36 days of oppression and torture; rather, the students had developed an all-out movement after being fed up with the extortion, tender manipulation and torture of the banned Chhatra League in the past seventeen years. But sadly, an organization called Chhatra Dal has turned extortion into their creative work.
Two days ago, they shot at students in Chawkbazar, causing bloodshed among our brothers. We want to ask the administration—where did they get these bullets? The terrorists must be arrested soon.”
He further warned, “The roots of the Islamic movement in Bir Chattala are very deep—if you target the student camp, you will have to wait for difficult consequences.”
The rally ended after the procession by calling on students, businessmen, shopkeepers—all to work together to stop extortion.
The rally was also attended by Chhatrashibir Chittagong Metropolitan North Organizing Secretary Khurram Murad, Finance Secretary Golam Azam, Office Secretary Arfat Hossain, Publicity Secretary Siraji Manik and others.
At that time, slogans like “Naraye Takbir – Allahu Akbar”, “If you have to beg, don’t beg – leave extortion”, “Extortionists’ address – Bir Chattala will not be there”, “In my Golden Bengal – there is no place for extortionists”, “We will fight against extortionists together”, “Extortionists are terrorism – stop the student community” were heard from the leaders and activists.
