An awareness meeting on anti-smuggling and trafficking has been conducted in Basantpur of Kaliganj upazila of Satkhira district in coordination with the local people, public representatives and the administration to strengthen crime prevention activities. The meeting was held on Wednesday (July 23) under the direction of Lieutenant Colonel Md. Shahariar Rajib, PSC, Signals, Commander of 17 BGB, organized by Basantpur BOP under Nildumur Battalion. The meeting was informed that regular and planned activities are continuing to prevent gold and drug smuggling, women and child trafficking and other illegal activities in the border areas of Shyamnagar, Debhata and Kaliganj upazilas under Nildumur Battalion. In addition, as per the instructions of the higher office of the BGB, regular patrols, check post searches, mobile and block raids, intelligence-based special operations, surveillance and presence in areas prone to criminal organizations on the border have been increased. In this context, the commander of the Nildumur Battalion said that the BGB is fulfilling its duty as an independent guard to protect the country at the zero line of Bangladesh. It is working to protect the country’s soil in a hostile environment. In addition, effective preparations and activities are being maintained to suppress border crimes and prevent illegal activities in the border areas, so that any kind of smuggling or trafficking attempt can be prevented at the initial stage. He further said that the BGB is strictly following the ‘zero tolerance policy’ to prevent drugs, illegal smuggled goods and illegal infiltration at the border and assured that this trend will continue in the future. He sought everyone’s active cooperation and support to fulfill the responsibilities and duties of protecting the borders of Bangladesh smoothly.
