This special unit of the highway police is divided into four divisions.

Bogra, Gazipur, Madaripur, Sylhet, Khulna, Rangpur, Mymensingh and Comilla are a total of eight regions.

Khairul Alam told The Daily Morning Glory, “This special unit of the police performs the biggest responsibility with the least number of manpower, the most joyful and challenging times, and the burden of responsibility on us is the most. Our police unit works tirelessly to ensure smooth traffic on the highway and curb all kinds of crime.”

Before 2005, there were frequent robberies on the roads, but now the number has been reduced to zero, the official claimed. Although there was some deterioration after the fall of the government in 2024, it is now under control. This fear is no longer seen in the minds of ordinary passengers.

This special police unit is playing an important role in checking vehicle documents regularly, checking speed limits, and preventing smuggling according to the Road Transport Act.

When it comes to the issue of bribery by some dishonest officers of this special police unit, Additional DIG Khairul Alam said, “There are some dishonest people everywhere, if such specific allegations are found against anyone, I will not hesitate to take strict action against them.”
When accidents happen regularly on the highway, the main task of this police unit is to seize both vehicles and file a case against them Sent to court.

A confidential source said that some unscrupulous officers are very clever in drug trafficking, aiding in robberies, demanding huge ransom from the vehicles involved in accidents, and even the constables have to pay ransom while towing the vehicles.

The victims say that if the higher authorities impersonate the victims, the issues will be easily noticed.
Additional DIG Khairul Alam told The Daily Morning Glory in this regard, “The entire department cannot be responsible for one person or a few people, if specific allegations are received, strict action will be taken against the accused policeman.”
