Fines Imposed, Polythene Seized, and Action Taken Against Smoke-Emitting Vehicles in Four Districts

On the initiative of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, the Department of Environment conducted mobile court drives today, 24 May 2025, in Dhaka and several other districts of the country to curb air pollution, noise pollution, and the use of banned polythene.
In Gazipur district, a mobile court was conducted under the Air Pollution (Control) Rules, 2022, leading to one case and a fine of BDT 1,00,000 being imposed and realized.
In Faridpur district, action was taken under section 6(a) of the Bangladesh Environment Conservation Act, 1995 (Amended 2010) for the production, sale, distribution, and marketing of banned polythene. Two cases were filed, resulting in BDT 2,000 in fines and the seizure of 72 kilograms of polythene. During the operation, several super shops and retail stores were inspected, and owners and the general public were made aware of the prohibition on polythene through cautionary messaging.
In Mirpur-1 area of Dhaka, action was taken against vehicles emitting excessive black smoke. Six cases were filed against six vehicle drivers, resulting in the collection of BDT 12,000 in fines.
In Manikganj and Faridpur districts, mobile courts were also conducted under the Noise Pollution (Control) Rules, 2006. A total of eight cases were filed, and BDT 8,000 in fines were collected.
These anti-pollution drives will continue nationwide to protect public health and the environment.
