A female passenger was abducted and her boyfriend was accused of physically abusing her at the Gauripur Railway Station in Mymensingh early on Saturday (May 10/25).
In this incident, the railway outpost police conducted a raid and rescued the female passenger from a room on the 3rd floor of the Upazila Health Complex after 5 hours.
Police have arrested four people on suspicion of involvement in the incident. However, the interrogation and beating of the female passenger and her boyfriend on the platform lasted for about an hour and a half.
Although the security guard’s office was 40 yards away and the railway outpost’s office was 60 yards away, neither of them came forward to address the incident.
The arrested are Khokon Mia (30), son of the deceased Ahmed Ali of Gangashram in Ramgopalpur Union, Md. Rabbi Mia (20), son of Suruj Mia of Notun Bazar in the municipal town, Raihan Uddin (21), son of Delwar Hossain, and Md. Anwar Hossain, son of Md. Yakub Ali of the small Andadia village in Barhatta Upazila.
Md. Anwar Hossain, son of Md. Yakub Ali of the small Andadia village of Barhatta upazila in Netrokona, said that he is married and the father of one child.
Even then, he fell in love with a sixteen-year-old girl from Dhirai Upazila. He took her to Gouripur Junction at night to take the train to Chittagong.
The train left the station five minutes before they were due to arrive. He was then waiting with his girlfriend in the passenger lounge on the station platform.
At night, Khokon Mia, the station’s big brother, came and questioned the pair. At one point, Rabbi and Raihan beat him up and detained him at the station.
I caught them, they still beat me up, and Khokon Mia, the famous brother-in-law, took the girl from the station around 3:30 a.m. After that, I went to the police station and reported the matter.
Khokon Mia, known as Barabhai, said he arrived at the Baisakhi Hotel at the station at 1:30 to have breakfast.
Later, when he arrived at the station, he saw a boy and a girl sitting together. The boy (the lover) was touching the girl’s sensitive area. Seeing this, he became suspicious when he questioned the boy and girl and claimed that they were husband and wife.
At one point, the girl admitted that the boy was not her husband, and that they were leaving home for a love affair.
He called the girl’s father and requested that he keep the girl in his custody.
He took the girl at that request. He made a mistake by taking the girl without informing the police and security personnel at the station.
The girl said that she was coming to Gauripur in a love affair with Anwar Hossain. The two were sitting at the station at night when two or three people came and beat Anwar.
They took me from there to another place. They tried to molest me, but they couldn’t.
Sub-Inspector Abul Kalam, in-charge of the Gouripur Railway Outpost, said that four people have been arrested for physically torturing a passenger waiting at the station and taking a female passenger elsewhere.
They have been brought to Mymensingh Railway Police Station. The girl’s father has arrived. The girl is also willing to go with her father.
Mymensingh Railway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Akhter Hossain said legal action will be taken against them.
