Farmer killed in clash over goats eating paddy fields in Netrakona

A clash broke out between two parties in Madan Upazila of the district over goats grazing in paddy fields. A farmer named Imam Hossain (55) was killed in the clash. At least 18 people from both sides, including women, were injured in the incident. The incident took place on Saturday evening in Akhasri village of Nayekpur union of the upazila. The deceased Imam Jose is the son of the deceased Abdul Khalek of Akhasri village. The injured Touhid Mia and Qari Islam are in critical condition and have been sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. The remaining injured are receiving treatment at the Madan Upazila Health Complex and local village doctors. According to police and local sources, Akbar Mia’s goat was eating rice from a boro field belonging to farmer Sonatan Mia of Akhasri village. An argument broke out between the two farmers yesterday afternoon. At this stage, people on both sides engaged in a clash with indigenous weapons. 18 people from both sides were injured in the clash. Among them, Imam Hossain was in critical condition and was sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. He died there on Saturday night. Madan Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Naeem Muhammad Nahid Hasan said, “One person died in the clash in Akhasri village.” The body of the deceased is still at the Mymensingh morgue. Additional police have been deployed to control the situation in the area. Further legal action will be taken after receiving a written complaint from the victim’s family.
