Workers protest in chottogram demanding arrears of wages

Workers are protesting by blocking roads in the Export Processing Zone (EPZ) area of Chottogram city. Demanding the reinstatement of laid-off workers and payment of arrears.
Hundreds of workers took part in the protest that began at the Export Processing Zone (EPZ) intersection around 2 pm on Saturday (April 5). This brought traffic to a standstill in the area. The protest continued till the last report was filed at 4:30 pm.
Additional Superintendent of Chottogram Industrial Area Police Mohammad Jasim Uddin said that about 40 workers of a factory called Access Sure were laid off. About 200 to 250 workers had been protesting in front of the factory since morning in protest. They reached the Export Processing Zone (EPZ) intersection around 2 pm and took up positions on the road.
He said that the protesters demanded the reinstatement of the laid-off workers and payment of arrears. Police reached the spot and tried to control the situation and remove the workers from the road.
