Maulana Md. Afsar Uddin Fakir (75), a resident of Kapasatia village in Birishiri union of the upazila, held a press conference in Durgapur, Netrokona, alleging land grabbing and physical and mental torture against his children. He made these allegations in a written statement at a press conference at the Durgapur Journalists Association office on Sunday afternoon. In the complaint, he said that the sons born from the first wife, Md. Jamal Uddin, Md. Shafiqul Islam, Md. Badsha, Md. Abul Hoson and Md. Abu Hanif, have been trying to embezzle family land for a long time. At the press conference, Maulana Afsar Uddin said that he has five sons and two daughters from his first wife and three daughters from his second wife. He filed a case in 2019 over land grabbing and torture. Although a compromise was later reached with the intervention of local dignitaries, the children took advantage of that opportunity and fraudulently registered 39 percent of the land in their own names. While he was bedridden at home sick, the boys lied to him and got him to sign papers. Later, they found out that they registered the land in their own name based on that paper. The sons also forcibly occupied 20 percent of the land in the name of the second wife and built a house on it. When he protested about this, he was physically assaulted. He has become mentally disturbed due to these incidents and has already suffered two strokes. But the children did not make any arrangements for his treatment. The daughters of the other party took responsibility for his treatment. He also said at the press conference, “The children have become so reckless that no one in the area dares to speak out against them.” “He is currently suffering from severe insecurity. They can kill him at any time.” He sought urgent intervention from the administration to get back the land and demanded to ensure the safety of himself and his family.
