Demand to stop journalist torture and enact a journalist protection law – Sohag Arefin
Journalists are the most persecuted today, incidents of journalist torture are happening today, there is no remedy, there is no freedom, said Sohag Arefin, the central organizing secretary of the Bangladesh Mofusal Journalists Union, at this time he strongly demanded that journalist torture should be stopped immediately and a journalist protection law should be enacted.
On Saturday (March 22), the afternoon of 21 Ramadan, the central organizing secretary of the “BMUJ” Chittagong district branch said these things at the Iftar and Doa Mahfil program of the “BMUJ” Chittagong district branch with the orphan children of the madrasa at the BMUJ office in the Faizlekh area of Khulshi, Chittagong city.
Bangladesh Mofusal Journalists Union Chittagong District Branch President Shahidul Islam presided over the event, and executive member Zahirul Islam Bablu moderated it.
The chief guest was prominent writer and journalist Kamal Parvez, member of Chittagong Press Club.
The main speaker was Central Organizing Secretary Sohag Arefin. Farhad, Shahadat Murad Sohel, Rajib, Gias Uddin Liton, and many others.
In his speech as the chief guest at the event, Kamal Parvez said that today there is a great lack of unity among journalists in this great profession. We have to put an end to this and build a wall of unity among ourselves. Today, journalists are being tortured and oppressed in every district, region and capital. Protesting will not do. If necessary, journalists will have to protest the torture through a movement on the streets. Therefore, there is no alternative to unity, he said.
Qari Maulana Hafez Mohammad Shahidul Islam, a teacher of Nooriya Madrasa Complex, led the prayers and supplications at the event. 100 students of the said madrasa participated in the Iftar Mahfil organized by the event.
