Fire Erupts at CoU Hills Again—Rapidly Controlled by Fire Service

Tanvir Mahim‚ CoU
Just like previous years, a fire incident has occurred once again at the hills of Comilla University (CoU). On Saturday (March 22), around 1 p.m., a fire broke out at a hill located on the northern side of the university’s central playground.
According to eyewitnesses, a few Ansar personnel attempted to control the flames using fresh green branches shortly after the fire started. Later, by 1:45 p.m., a unit from the Comilla Sadar South Upazila Fire Service arrived at the scene and successfully brought the fire under control within a short period.
When asked about the cause of the fire, Muslem Uddin Miazi, Acting Station Officer of the Fire Service, stated, “There were no substances or gatherings around the site that could have caused the fire to spread. Therefore, pinpointing the exact source of the fire is difficult.”
Mohammad Sadeq Hossain Majumder, Assistant Registrar of the university’s Security Section, mentioned, “Based on past experience, it can be presumed that the fire may have started due to children’s activities or remnants of cigarettes. The dry season contributed to the rapid spread of the fire. However, thanks to the assistance of the Ansar members, the fire was quickly brought under control.”
