Police have arrested the top terrorist Sajjad Hossain alias Chhota Sajjad, who is facing a reward in Chittagong.

He was arrested from Bashundhara City in Dhaka around 10:30 pm on Saturday (March 15). After the arrest, he was taken to Tejgaon Police Station in Dhaka. He is being brought to Chittagong on Sunday.

CMP DC Amirul Islam said that terrorist Sajjad has been arrested from Dhaka. After his arrest, he will be brought to Chittagong after completing some legal procedures.

Recently, Sajjad came into wide discussion by threatening to strip and beat the OC of Bayezid Bostami Police Station in the city on Facebook Live.

Chhota Sajjad is a follower of another terrorist Sajjad Ali, who is absconding abroad. There are 10 cases of murder, arms and extortion against him. Sajjad’s father’s name is Jamal Uddin, a resident of Shikarpur in Hathazari Upazila of Chittagong. On July 17, 2024, Chandgaon police arrested Chhota Sajjad with weapons. He was released on bail the following month. After the political change on August 5 of the same year, panic spread due to Sajjad’s reckless activities. The police started a vigorous operation to arrest him.

Sajjad was in the news for one terrorist activity after another in the city. On September 18 last year, Sajjad opened fire on an under-construction building in the Colorpole area of ​​Bayezid Bostami police station in the city after not receiving a ransom. A footage of the incident went viral on social media Facebook. Then on December 4, when the police tried to arrest Sajjad in the city’s Oxygen area, he fled while firing. The last time the police arrested six of his associates while preparing for a robbery on January 27. Sajjad escaped from there.

On January 28, Bayezid Bostami went live from his Facebook ID and threatened the OC of the police station. At that time, Sajjad said, “I will catch OC Arif wherever he is in the country and beat him up naked.” Since OC Arif took charge at the police station, three cases have been filed against me. He killed my child. He arrested my wife and took her to jail. I will not let him go. If it were not for the police, I would have beaten him up long ago. I am keeping quiet because I respect the police.” After the threat, the OC filed a general diary (GD) at the police station.

On August 29 last year, two people named Masud Kaiser (32) and Mohammad Anis (38) were shot dead in public on the Oxygen-Quaish road of Bayezid Bostami police station in the city. They are accused of murdering each other over a dispute over dominance in the area. Sajjad is the main accused in two cases of the double murder incident. On the afternoon of September 21 last year, local businessman Aftab Uddin Tahsin (27) was shot dead by Sajjad’s forces as he got out of a microbus at a tea shop adjacent to the Jagarni Sangha Club in the outskirts of Chandgaon police station in the city. The fearsome terrorist Sajjad, known as ‘Buri’s grandson’, is a symbol of terror in Hathazari, Bayezid Bostami, Chandgaon and Panchlaish areas. Last July 17 last year, Chandgaon police station arrested Sajjad with weapons, but he was released on bail the next month.

On December 5, the police went on a raid to catch top terrorist Sajjad on the fifth floor of a seven-story building behind the Jalalabad petrol pump at the Oxygen intersection in the city. Sensing their presence, Sajjad opened fire. A total of four people, including two policemen, were injured in the shooting. Sajjad fled after firing at the police, but a woman who identified herself as his wife was arrested.
