Miscreants have killed the caretaker of an agricultural farm and robbed seven cows in Durgapur upazila of the district. The incident took place in the Shuknakuri area of the upazila on Wednesday night (March 5). The deceased, Joynal Uddin (65), was a resident of Pukuria area of Kakairgarh union in Durgapur.
He had been working on the farm for the past two and a half months. Police and local sources said that a group of miscreants entered the farm late at night to steal cows. During this time, they killed caretaker Joynal Uddin and looted seven cows from the farm. Local resident Barkat Khan said that when the replacement caretaker Helal Uddin came to the farm in the morning and could not see the daily activities, he called Joynal. When he didn’t respond, he opened the door to the hay room and saw him lying face down. Local UP member Sekul Alam Talukder said, Joynal Uddin was a simple man. He had no enmity with anyone. Why did he have to be killed like this! We feel terrified in such an incident. Where is our safety? Lamenting repeatedly, the deceased’s wife, Jamila Khatun, said, “Our family used to run on my husband’s income.” How will our family with children and grandchildren survive now? She wants the death penalty for those who killed my husband. Farm owner Mahabul Haque said, “The miscreants have caused great damage by killing my caretaker.” We want exemplary justice for those involved in this crime. Durgapur Circle Senior ASP Al Imranul Alam said, “We have already inspected the scene.” All police units are working to unravel the mystery of the incident.
