Bangladesh Navy ship Surma arrested 17 thieves with illegal indigenous weapons at 0200 hours on Thursday (27-02-2025) in the outer anchorage area of ​​the Bay of Bengal.During the operation, a motor-driven wooden boat along with rammers, knives, hammers, mobiles and various types of lights were seized. The estimated value of which is 5 lakh 50 thousand taka. Later, the seized goods were handed over to the local police station for legal action against the thieves.

According to the incident, it was learned that a gang was preparing to steal in a wooden boat south of Kutubdia in the Bay of Bengal. Based on the information received, Bangladesh Navy ship Surma, which was patrolling north of Kutubdia, reached the spot very quickly. It arrested 17 members of the gang of thieves from the spot along with a motor-driven wooden boat. No casualties were reported during this time.
It is to be noted that Navy ships and other maritime organizations deployed in the outer anchorages and adjacent areas of the Bay of Bengal have been conducting regular patrols and expeditionary activities. The Navy’s operations will continue in the future as well.
