Two sisters become the first and second female judges in Bandarban district

Afsana and Farzana are the permanent residents of these two gifted children in the Chikanchhari area of Bankkhali Mouza No. 279, Dochhari Union, Naikhongchhari Upazila, Bandarban district. The results of the 17th Bangladesh Judicial Service Examination held under the Bangladesh Judicial Service Commission were published last Sunday (February 23). Farzana Islam Sweety, a former law student at Chittagong University, has been included in the list of recommended candidates. She has secured 89th place in the merit list. A flood of joy is spreading across the union due to the rare success. Dochhari Union Parishad Chairman Muhammad Imran said that his two sisters from the same family are the children of Nurul Islam, a 6-time undefeated UP member of Dochhari Union, and former female MUP Sajeda Begum. The flood of joy is going on not only in the remote town of Dochhari Union but also throughout Bandarban district. Because his two sisters are the first and second judges in Bandarban district. Farzana Islam’s success is not only her personal achievement, but it has also added a new chapter to the judicial department of Bandarban district. She is the second woman from this district to be recommended for appointment in the judiciary. Earlier, her elder sister, Afsana Islam Rumi, secured second place in the 12th Bangladesh Judicial Service Examination held in 2019. Two female judges from the same family, Afsana and Farzana, are from Dochhari Union, Naikhongchhari Upazila, Bandarban district. Their father, Nurul Islam, is a former member of Ward No. 1 of Dochhari Union Parishad, and their mother, Sajeda Begum, is a former member of Ward No. 1, 2, and 3. Sajeda Begum has been awarded the titles of ‘Ratnagarbha’ and ‘Shreshtha Jayeeta’ for her special role in the advancement of women in society. Afsana, Farzana, and their elder brother Mujahidul Islam—all three were law students at Chittagong University. They studied in the 20th, 22nd and 18th batches respectively. Currently, Mujahidul Islam is working as a lawyer in the High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh and is also involved in the legal profession in the Bandarban District and Sessions Judge Court. The youngest child of the family, Tausiful Islam, is pursuing a master’s degree from the English Department of Dhaka University. Their father, Nurul Islam, expressed gratitude for this achievement and said, “I am grateful to Allah.” He has given me children who will walk in the path of justice and work for the welfare of mankind. I want them to always remain steadfast in the path of truth and justice. Mother Sajeda Begum said that since childhood, she had kept her children under strict discipline, not only for their studies, but also to maintain their honesty and morality. He said, “I have always wanted my children to speak the truth, follow the righteous path and not harm anyone. Allah has fulfilled that hope of mine. May they be rewarded by the Creator for this.”
