Must play an effective role in mosquito control: CCC Mayor

CCC warns of expulsion from the institution if sanitation workers neglect their work.
Chittagong City Corporation Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain has directed the sanitation department to play an effective role in mosquito control to save people from dengue and Culex. He has directed to purchase medicines, collect equipment and find new strategies to control mosquitoes if necessary.
At a meeting with the sanitation department at the Chittagong City Corporation office in Tiger Pass on Thursday, Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain said that the city’s sanitation activities have gained some momentum as a result of ward-to-ward campaigns. However, ward-based monitoring will continue to control waterlogging and mosquitoes in the upcoming monsoon.
“We have already purchased 100 pieces of fogger machines and 120 pieces of spray machines. In addition, as part of social responsibility, several banks have gifted state-of-the-art fogger machines to the Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) to combat dengue and mosquito-borne health risks. Talks are underway with some other organizations, they are also positive to stand by the people. In addition, we have procured two backhoe loader vehicles at a cost of 5 crore taka for cleaning drains and canals to reduce waterlogging. Initiatives have been taken to distribute 40,000 bins to business establishments. So that the people benefit. So that people do not have to come to the hospital due to mosquito bites or die or do not feel disturbed, we must play an effective role.”
Regarding mosquito control medicines, the mayor said that there is no shortage of mosquito medicines. Currently, the life cycle of mosquitoes is changing rapidly due to climate change. Therefore, if necessary, you should search for new medicines. If any other company can find good medicines, we will collect them. We do not want to compromise in this regard. We are thinking of some alternatives for mosquito control. Fish and insects that eat mosquito larvae can be used.
Emphasizing on public awareness, the mayor said, you will increase public awareness. I am also trying. Drains, bushes and bushes in different places should be kept clean. We are distributing leaflets about dengue, this should be increased further. The number of deaths due to dengue should be brought to zero. If we cannot increase public awareness, then we will not be able to benefit the people in the end. For this dengue mosquito, we have been repeatedly saying that no coconut shell, bucket or construction material should be kept open anywhere. Because if there is water there, Aedes mosquito larvae will be born there. Do not keep water in buckets for two to three days at home and do not keep water in tubs and do not keep water in tubs in open places because if water accumulates there, Aedes mosquito larvae will be born.
The mayor also said that all the cleaning workers who are negligent in spraying mosquitoes will be fired from their jobs. I want to clearly tell you, the supervisors of each ward, if anyone cheats, you will have to take responsibility for it. If you want to hide, we will get the information eventually. We have people in every area. So I want to tell you clearly that if someone is negligent, if someone cheats, if someone does not work, do not try to hide it. Rather, inform us. If necessary, we will get new people to work. I want the work to be done. The work has to be done. Otherwise, the people will suffer. If the people suffer, we will have to take responsibility for it eventually.
Also present at the meeting were Chief Cleaning Officer Ikhtiar Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, Malaria and Mosquito Control Officer of CHSK Sharful Islam Mahi, Deputy Chief Cleaning Officer Pranab Kumar Sharma, and officers and employees of the Cleaning Department.
