Cabinet Secretary Dr. Abdur Rashid inspected the embankment work in Shyamnagar and Ashashuni in Satkhira. He came to inspect the work on Friday (December 31). After inspecting the Kalbari Akashlina Ecopark in Shyamnagar, a coastal upazila of the district, he went on a speed board to inspect various works of the Megha project, including the construction of embankment blocks adjacent to the Sundarbans, canal excavation, road construction, and construction of kalbhat. However, at that time, local people complained about the quality of work and the slow pace of work. They said that the contractors have already extended the work time several times. There is also a huge lack of supervision of the Megha project, which is a sustainable embankment construction project in Gabura in the coastal area at a cost of 1,400 crore taka. Although only 15-20% of the work of the Megha project has been completed. The coastal people demanded that the work be completed quickly.
Present at the time were Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md. Helal Mahmud Sharif, DIG Rezaul Haque PPM, PAUBO Executive Engineer Shakhawat Hossain, SE Syed Saidul Islam, Satkhira Deputy Commissioner Mostaq Ahmed, SP Monirul Islam, Upazila Executive Officer Md. Roni Khatun, Assistant Commissioner Bhumi Abdullah Al Rifat, Officer-in-Charge of Shyamnagar Police Station Humayun Kabir Molya and others.
In addition, the completed and ongoing work of the project titled “Development of drainage system of Polder-1, 2, 6-8 and (Extension) of Satkhira District” of the Bangladesh Water Development Board was inspected by the Secretary of the Cabinet Division Dr. Sheikh Abdur Rashid. On Friday morning, he inspected the excavation work of Betna River in Asashuni. In addition to seeing the on-site work there, he inquired about the work of the project. At this time, PAUBO Chief Engineer Bidyut Kumar Saha informed about the completed and ongoing work under the project.
It is worth noting that the project was approved by ECNEC in 2020 and the work started in 2021. The project will be completed by June this year. The excavation work of Betna River will be completed by April.
