Battery-powered rickshaw and easy-bike drivers have blocked the road at Agrabad intersection in Chittagong with various demands.

They started the protest by taking a position in front of the Agrabad Traffic Office of the Chittagong Metropolitan Police at around 12 noon today. Due to their position, traffic on this important road in the city is closed.

The drivers are running this program under the banner of the Rickshaw, Battery Rickshaw-Van and Easy-Bike Sangram Parishad.

Their demands are – reducing the provision of paying a fine of Tk 3,250 for battery-powered vehicles in Chittagong metropolis, withdrawing the provision of keeping seized rickshaws and easy-bikes in custody for 10 days, and introducing BRTA-approved licenses, policies, route permits and service lanes. Total eight demands.

Regarding the matter, Chittagong Metropolitan Police’s West Traffic Zone Deputy Commissioner Niskriti Chakma told the daily morning glory, ‘It has not been decided yet whether the operation will continue or not, we will sit with the Police Commissioner Sir and take a decision and then we can inform you’ and these decisions come from the ministry. This police officer also said, ‘The police are working according to the law and by looking at the documents. We are trying to convince them. We are trying to clear the road.’ You have their leaders, talk to them.

Shopkeeper of the different roadside in the city said that there is a little peace on the road today, of the shopkeeper name Sumon said “today I fell a little bit peace, Battery Rickshaw collision infront of my shop often, today they all are at Agrabad intersection.
