Uttara’s conscious civic society has formed a human chain demanding permanent allocation of land in the name of Uttara West Police Station building. The human chain was held next to Zamzam Tower on Janpath Avenue, Uttara Sonargaon at 11 am on Wednesday, January 29. At this time, conscious citizens participating in the Uttara human chain were saying, “We must give the police station land, we must give it.” Our demand, our demand, we must accept it, we must accept it. They shook Janpath Avenue with slogans like “Break the black hand of RAJUK and destroy it,” “Allotment of police station land must be given, must be given.” They also said that the police station should be moved from the residential building here and vacant plots 33 and 35 of RAJUK on Sonargaon Janpath Avenue Road in Sector 13 should be allocated for the construction of a multi-storey building for Uttara West Police Station.

Uttara West Police Station, known as the model police station, is located on Road No. 18, Sector No. 11, Uttara Sub-city. This police station was established in 2012 to reduce the responsibilities of Uttara Purba Police Station (previously known as Uttara Police Station). The area of ​​this police station is 8 square kilometers. The police station consists of Abdullahpur, Baunia, Kamarpara, Batulia, Rasdia and sectors 3, 5, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14 of Uttara. After the new police station was built, the government rented a building because there was no land to build a permanent building. The new police station building, which is located inside a residential area, is inadequate, causing various difficulties in its operations.

Additionally, traffic jams occur on the branch roads surrounding the police station building.

For this reason, the Uttara Kalyan Samiti staged several protests in 2022, demanding that the police station be relocated to a new building on 30 kathas of land on Sonargaon Janpath. The MP from Dhaka-18 sent a DO letter to the then Chairman of the Capital Development Authority, Anisur Rahman Miah, on October 19, 2022, recommending in favor of their demands. It is learned that the director of RAJUK Uttara Zone is scheduled to visit the scene after receiving news of the human chain.

Regarding the permanent allotment of land in the name of Uttara West Police Station building, Hafizur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Uttara West Police Station, told Inqilab, “Due to lack of space, we are unable to provide the desired services to the people.” There is not enough seating for officers, there is no space to park cars, and they have to work from chairs and tables in the parking area.

There are no sanitary bathrooms here. The jail is in a poor condition. The prison is not safe here, and one has to be constantly in tension with the accused. He also said that the environment of the police station needs to be improved to provide adequate services to the people of the sector. I also agree with this long-standing logical demand of the local residents.
