Local residents and local businessmen formed a human chain to protest demanding the hanging of former Minister of Textiles and Jute Ministry Golam Dastagir Gazi, who is accused in the murder case during the anti-discrimination student movement. Angered by the protest, locals threw garlands of shoes at the pictures of former Minister Gazi and his followers.

The human chain program was held in front of Bhulta Raw Market Arat in Rupganj Upazila of Narayanganj on Monday (January 27) afternoon.

Angry locals of Narayanganj-1 constituency and former Minister of Textiles and Jute Ministry Golam Dastagir Gazi and his son Golam Mortuza Pappa Gazi, as followers of Gazi, threw garlands of shoes at the pictures of Dr. Mujibur Rahman and Ayub Ali and protested. They also set fire to the picture of former Minister Gazi.

The speakers at the human chain said that many people have been killed in Rupganj Upazila as in the entire country in the anti-discrimination student movement. The families of those killed by the gunfire of former minister Golam Dastagir Gazi and his Awami League terrorists are crying non-stop. Some have lost their brothers, some have lost their children in the movement. In addition, many are seriously injured and are receiving treatment in hospitals. These murderous terrorists must be tried on the soil of Bengal. We demand proper trial by hanging former minister Gazi and his associates.

Local traders in a human chain claimed that former minister Golam Dastagir Gazi and his followers had occupied a raw market shop called Bismillah Arat in the Bhulta Saoghat area of Rupganj upazila. The traders in the human chain expressed their anger and said that during the previous Awami League regime, under the orders of Textile and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi, his follower Dr. Mojibur Mia, by abusing his power, occupied the shop and embezzled crores of taka every month. They repeatedly prevented the real owner of the shop, Selim Mia, from collecting rent by making fake contracts. In this way, his people and terrorists have occupied the entire Rupganj under the orders of former minister Gazi and have brutally tortured people. We demand the immediate arrest and maximum punishment of these terrorists.

Also present at the human chain were District Chhatra Dal Deputy General Secretary Md. Masud Rana Babu, Rupganj Thana Chhatra Dal leader Yakub Mia, Golakandail Union Chhatra Dal leader Zahid Hasan Shakib, along with hundreds of locals and local businessmen.
