Among them, Ali Hossain (40) had his left leg severed. The accident occurred at 6 am on Friday in the no-man’s land area of the Ashar Tali border in upazila of Bandarban, adjacent to Myanmar, due to a mine planted by the rebels there. The injured Ali Hossain is the son of the deceased Mohammad Hossain of Ashar Tali village.
Meanwhile, at 10:30 am, a local Arif Ullah (30) was seriously injured in a mine explosion in Jamchhari area, another border point. He is the son of Zafar Alam of Ward No. 9 of Sadar Union. He has been taken to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital.

Locals said that when Ali Hossain and some smugglers went to the 2-S point near border pillar number 47 on the border, a mine exploded with a loud noise. Later, the people who were with him took the injured Ali Hossain to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital.
In this regard, Naikhongchari Upazila Executive Officer Muhammad Mazharul Islam said, “I have heard reports that two people were injured in a mine explosion. Since it is a border area, the BGB is looking into the matter.”
It is learnt that the smuggling of various goods including fuel from Bangladesh to Myanmar rebels has increased for several days. In addition to smuggling these goods from Naikhongchari and Garjnia markets, illegal cattle including yaba are coming from the other side.
Goods worth lakhs of taka are smuggled through Ashartali, Fultali, Jamchhari, Chakdhala, Lemuchhari, Ghumdhum and Tumbru areas of Naikhongchari upazila every day. Some local political leaders and activists are involved in this.
In this context, a BGB official said that local public representatives and political leaders are involved in these activities. Smugglers have strengthened their syndicates in every area.
