Yesterday (January 23), the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement organized a sit-in strike in front of the superintendent of police office with 9 demands, including taking immediate legal action against the police who opened fire during the July Revolution, arresting and bringing to justice the banned Chhatra League and Awami League terrorists who are roaming openly and are plotting sabotage and disorder. The students took out a huge protest procession from the local Shaheed Dr. Abul Kashem Maidan at 11:30 am. The procession marched around the main roads of Joypurhat town with slogans like ‘My brother is in the grave, why is the murderer outside, direct action against the police League, direct action against the A.League’ and held a sit-in in front of the Police Superintendent’s office. During the program, Niyamur Rahman Nibir presented a 9-point program in front of a large number of students and law enforcement officers. He announced a 7-day ultimatum to fulfill the demands. Later, they also held the same program in the court premises. Awami terrorists roaming in public must be arrested immediately. Arbitrary bail must be stopped for the accused in murder and sabotage cases. Banned Chhatra League terrorists must be arrested. Police communication with Chhatra League and Awami terrorists must be stopped. Immediate legal action must be taken against the police who opened fire and those whose hands have the blood of student brothers and sisters. If the 9-point demands are not implemented immediately, the leaders of the anti-discrimination student movement warned of a tough movement after 7 days. Other speakers included Mubassir Ali Shihab, KM Sajin, Farzan Hossain, Motasim Minal, Ehsan Ahmed Nahid, Mainul Islam Risalat, Khairun Nahar, Chhamitun Islam Mitun and other leaders of the anti-discrimination student movement.
