8 Injured in Anti-Discrimination student movement on Cricket Field; Enjoyed the BPL Match
8 people who were seriously injured in the anti-discrimination student movement and returned from the brink of death came to Chittagong yesterday and enjoyed the BPL cricket match. After the game, they exchanged views with Chittagong Deputy Commissioner Farida Khanam at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium. They described the barbaric torture during the movement. Deputy Commissioner Farida Khanam called the injured national heroes and pledged to stand by them in the future. BCB Director Mohammad Manjur Alam was present at the time.
Among the injured students and the crowd were Kazi Ashrafur Rahman Sifat, a student of the Naval Architecture and Offshore Engineering Department of Maritime University Bangladesh, Mohammad Araful Islam, a student of Tejgaon Government College, Mohammad Rifat Sikder, a phone servicing worker Golam Azam, salesmen Al Amin Islam Shoib and Mohammad Zakir Sikder, drivers Masum Mia and Syed Abirul Islam. Of the 8 youths, three have lost one eye, two have lost their legs. One has a broken shoulder. One has bullet wounds in his body. They were overcome with emotion while talking about the terrible times.
Deputy Commissioner Farida Khanam said that the nation will forever remember with respect the sacrifices of the students and youth who lost their lives in this war to build a new Bangladesh.
