4 arrested with weapons in Chakaria shrimp enclosure

After robbing a 14.5-acre shrimp enclosure in the Charandwip area of the shrimp zone of Chakaria, Cox’s Bazar, land grabbers forcibly occupied several shrimp enclosures. With the help of the public, the police have arrested four people with weapons.
The police conducted a drive from 3 pm to 5:30 pm on Sunday (January 12). The drive was led by the officer-in-charge (OC) of the police station, Manjur Quader Bhuiyan. A large police team including 10/12 sub-inspectors of the police station participated in the drive.
Arrested with weapons – Abu Taher (28), son of Nurunnabi of Saudagar Ghona area of Ward No. 7 of Chiringa UP of the upazila. The others with him are – Abu Taher (45), son of the deceased Abul Kashem of the same area, Md. Mia (32), son of Zaker of the same area, and Didarul Islam (50), son of the deceased Abul Majid of the same area.
Aziz, the victim of the forcible seizure of the shrimp farm, said – A 14.5-acre farm in Charandwip Shrimp Zone was robbed last Saturday night by a group of armed robbers and land grabbers. They looted about two million taka of fish and goods from my farm. In this way, they damaged each farm. In the afternoon, I, along with two other owners of the farm who had occupied it, sought the help of the police station, and a large team of police including the OC conducted a raid on the farm. Then, a guard of my farm was shot and one of his hands was torn off. He has been sent to Chamak Hospital for treatment in a coma. It is doubtful whether he will survive. However, on seeing the police, the local people jumped in and caught one of them red-handed with weapons. Later, the police were able to arrest three more people who were with him from different places while they were fleeing. A large group of robbers escaped in an engine-powered boat. In this regard, I, along with The victims have prepared to file a case at the police station.
The owner of the enclosure, Jamir Hossain, who was shot, said, “Last night, my enclosure was robbed. I tied it up, and they shot me, and I was shot in both legs.” The godfathers of the robbers and squatters are Jasim Uddin, Bad, Didar, and BA Rashid of Malumghat. They threatened to rob and occupy our enclosure a few days before the incident, but we gave them satisfactory money. Even then, they robbed us in the spirit of looting and eating.
Chakaria Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Manjur Quader Bhuiyan said, “Last night, a 14.5-acre shrimp farm in Charandwip was robbed. Later, armed robbers took over 2/1 of the farms. The next day, Sunday afternoon, we conducted a raid. In this, we were able to arrest a robber named Abu Taher (28) with weapons and three others with him while they were fleeing with the help of the public from different places. We are trying to track down the robbers who fled after being informed about the raid. However, a case is being filed against those arrested under the Arms Act. This raid will continue, he said.
