Hundreds of men and women from the area held a human chain and protest rally demanding the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of those involved in the abduction and release of Kazi Raisul Islam Selim, Chairman of Moukaran Union No. 14 under Patyakhali Sadar Upazila, and the barbaric torture and attempted murder of him.
On Thursday (January 9), at 10 am, on the road in front of the Moukaran Union Parishad office, a two-hour-long human chain and protest rally was held under the chairmanship of Moukaran Union BNP President Abul Kalam Azad (Haq Sikder) and moderated by UP Panel Chairman Md. Sultan Master. College teachers Kazi Israt Hossain Badal and Kazi Delwar Hossain Dilip, relatives of victim Moukaran Union Parishad Chairman Kazi Raisul Islam Selim, spoke at the rally.
Other speakers included freedom fighter Altaf Hossain, former army member Md. Khabir Uddin Jomaddar, UP member Ismat Ara Begum, Assistant Professor Md. Harun Or Rashid, UP member Kazi Imrul Islam, former UP member Delwar Hossain Molla, former UP member Sohag Hawlader, former UP member Bashir Uddin Molla, businessman Shahin Munshi, Abul Hossain Hawlader, advocate Farid Ahmed Abir Akon, Kamrul Islam Masud, Maulana Mamun Akon, BNP leader Md. Faruk, among others.
The speakers demanded that the interim government, including the police administration, immediately arrest the main conspirators involved in the kidnapping, inhuman torture and attempted murder of UP Chairman Kazi Raisul Islam Selim, the embodiment of the development of Moukaran Union, and impose exemplary punishment on the terrorists involved in the incident.
A program was announced to hold a human chain and protest rally at Serampur Bazaar on Friday with the same demand.
According to the report, while UP Chairman Kazi Raisul Islam Selim was on his way to Dhaka by Green Line Transport at 11 pm on December 31, 15/20 people in Keraniganj area, posing as DB, forcibly dragged him and took him to a building under construction in Babubazar area, brutally beat him, tied his hands and feet and demanded a ransom of one crore taka.
At one point in the incident, the chairman’s younger brother and his relatives informed the police.
Police rescued him, dead, from the under-construction building in Babubazar at 12 noon on January 2 through technology and admitted him to the hospital.
UP Panel Chairman Sultan Howlader said that police have arrested five people in the incident.
UP member Ismat Ara Begum confirmed that the chairman’s wife Farhana Khanam Rita has filed a case with Keraniganj Police Station.
