Month-long Dhaka International Trade Fair is being inaugurated today (Wednesday) at the Bangabandhu Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition (BBCFEC) Center in Purbachal, Rupganj Upazila of Narayanganj.
The trade fair, jointly organized by the Ministry of Commerce and the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), will be inaugurated by Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus at 10 am on Wednesday. Eight countries are participating in the 29th edition of the trade fair.
Export Promotion Bureau Director (Policy and Planning) Abu Mokhles Alamgir Hossain said that all kinds of preparations are in place for the trade fair. Members of RAB, police, army, BDR and Ansar have been deployed at the premises of the month-long trade fair. This year’s fair will have 362 stalls and pavilions. Of these, 351 are stalls and pavilions of domestic organizations.
Remaining 11 stalls are from various organizations from 7 foreign countries. To avoid unpleasant incidents at the opening ceremony of the fair, Export Promotion Bureau Director Abu Mokhles Alamgir requested the guests to carry their institutional or national identity cards with their photos. This time, 5 booths of 3 banks have been placed at the fair.
This time too, BRTC buses will operate from Kuril Bish^ Road to the fair grounds every day from 8 am to 9 pm for visitors coming to the trade fair.
Mahmudul Hasan, director of the Information and Publication Department of the Export Promotion Bureau, said that this year the entire allocation process was done online. However, the same floor price or rent has been kept as last year.
The fair’s organizer, the Export Promotion Bureau, hopes that the trade fair will be more attractive this year with a touch of innovation. He said that the overall activities of the fair have been arranged in a manner similar to the July-August uprising. For the first time, there will be an online ticketing system for entering the trade fair. There will be a technology-based children’s park for children.
Bangladesh has been organizing trade fairs since 1995, with the joint initiative of the Ministry of Commerce and EPB, to promote, expand, market, and support the production of domestic products. No entry tickets were provided for local journalists at the opening ceremony.
