Suddenly Closed 6 Factories of S. Alam in CTG, 12000 workers would be jobless
Authorities have suddenly announced the closure of six factories of the Chittagong-based industrialist S Alam Group for an indefinite period from tomorrow.
As a result, 12,000 officials, employees and workers working in the six factories are in trouble. Sources say that workers protested in some factories at this time.
The factories are S. Alam Refined Sugar Industries, S Alam Power Plant Limited, S Alam Cold Rolled Steels Limited, S Alam Cold Rolled Steels Limited-Nof, S Alam Power Generation Limited and Infinity CR Strips Industries Limited.
The factories are located on the banks of the Karnaphuli River in Kalarpool and Ichanagar in Karnaphuli Upazila of Chittagong and in Gandamara in Banshkhali.
On Wednesday (December 24) morning, the group’s Human Resources and Administration Department Head Mohammad Borhan Uddin signed a notice regarding the closure of the factory.
It was mentioned that for the information of all workers, officers and employees, it is being informed that due to unavoidable reasons, the factory will be closed from December 25 until further notice as per the instructions of the authorities. However, the security department, delivery section and emergency department (as per the decision of the management authority) will remain open.
The notice also mentioned that the date of opening the factory will be announced through a notice as per the instructions of the authorities.
According to sources, there are more than 12,000 officers and employees, both employed and casual, in the two factories. The factory workers are in trouble due to the sudden decision to close the factory.
