After 53 years of victory, fundamental and democratic rights have not achieved: Dr. Shahadat
Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain said, Even after 53 years of victory, fundamental and democratic rights of the people have not been achieved.
He said this in response to questions from journalists after laying wreaths at the Liberation War Memorial located on the south side of DC Park at sunrise on Monday, December 16 on Victory Day.
At that time, the mayor said, even after 53 years of victory, the fundamental rights of the people of Bangladesh, namely the right to food, clothing, housing, education and medical care, have not been ensured. 53 years have passed, but we are still struggling for democracy. We still have to continue our fight for people’s food, clothing, housing, education and health. If the fundamental rights of the people are protected, we will be able to achieve the real benefits of our victory.
Expressing his determination to build a new Bangladesh in the future, Shahadat Hossain said, “We are trying to overcome the current lack of assurance of people’s education and health and the obstacles on the path of democracy. Our main goal is to ensure people’s fundamental rights, freedom of speech, democratic rights, rule of law, human rights and the right to vote. If we can return the right to vote to the people, a democratic government is established and the fundamental rights of the people are ensured, then we will be able to build a democratic, beautiful, corruption-free and prosperous Bangladesh. To achieve this goal, every institution, starting from the constitution, needs to establish a democratic foundation through reforms.
He also said, today’s Victory Day reminds us of another victory. That is the united victory of the students and the people in August. The main lesson of this victory and Victory Day is the need for us to remain united. If we can remain united today, then we can return the lost democracy to the people.” It will be possible to ensure the basic rights of the people, such as food, clothing, shelter, education, and health.
After laying wreaths at the Liberation War Memorial, the Mayor hoisted the national flag and laid wreaths at the CHSK office in Tiger Pass. At that time, the Chief Executive Officer of CHSK Sheikh Muhammad Touhidul Islam and other officials and employees were present.
