On December 15, at 6 pm, a discussion program “Kothamala” on the development ideas of Chittagong was organized at the Bijoy Mela premises.
Chittagong Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Farida Khanam, City Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain, Chittagong Development Authority Chairman Engineer Nurul Karim, Urban Planner Engineer Subhash Chandra Barua, and Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Md. Sharif Uddin participated in the discussion. The program was moderated by Mr. Hasan Maruf Rumi, Member Secretary of Sammilit Nagorik Forum.
In the discussion, Deputy Commissioner Farida Khanam said, “This city is constantly facing various threats such as air pollution, water pollution, deforestation, and natural disasters like cyclones.
Action will be taken against those who are cutting mountains and encroaching canals.
Along with economic activities, attention should be paid to the mental health of the city dwellers.
Plans will be taken in coordination with all institutions for the conservation and development of playgrounds, parks, and reservoirs.
He also said that various initiatives are being taken to enhance the beauty of tourist spots in consultation with planners. The current district administration has taken the initiative to work according to the master plan for spreading the tourism industry in Chittagong district.
In order to develop Patenga Sea Beach, Parki Beach in Anwara Upazila, and Guliahali Beach in Sitakunda Upazila as world-class tourist spots, a target has been set for the construction of shops and houses on the country side, as per the size specified by the Beach Management Committee, from the sea side.
In order to maintain the round-the-clock security of tourists, arrangements will be made to construct sheds/offices for the information and service center and tourist police.”
