Fire Service holds mass communication in Karail slum to raise awareness on fire prevention

The Fire Service has held a mass communication in Karail slum in the capital to raise awareness on fire. The mass communication program was started at 8 am on December 14 from Ershad Field in Karail slum. There is a tendency for the number of fires to increase during winter. This mass communication was conducted to raise awareness as part of fire prevention. At that time, Deputy Director of Dhaka Division of Fire Service Mr. Md. Saleh Uddin, Assistant Director Md. Anwarul Haque, Zone Heads of various zones of Dhaka and other officers and employees were present.
At 8 am, the Deputy Director, Assistant Director and other officers and employees arrived at Ershad Field in Karail slum and gathered the people living in the slum and trained them on what to do in case of a fire and how to cooperate when the Fire Service arrives to extinguish the fire. Then the officers and employees divided into 10 teams and went to different lanes and explained to the residents what to do in case of fire. At this time, everyone was informed about the fire service hotline number 102. In the presence of the officers, many people called the fire service hotline number on a trial basis. Later, the slum dwellers were brought together again at Ershad Field and a practical exercise was shown on how to extinguish a gas cylinder fire. Deputy Director of Public Relations Mr. Md. Saleh Uddin said, “Although public relations activities are carried out regularly by the Fire Service every Saturday, we are conducting this public relations program on a large scale only keeping in mind the winter season. So that awareness about fire accidents increases among the people and it is possible to reduce the number of accidents.”
