Sub-Inspector (SI) of Akkalpur Police
Station Yunus Ali was thrashed by the local people while conducting a search in the vehicle
while he engaged his source with police uniform and a vest. The incident took place at Kanupur Halri intersection in Union of Rukandipur in Upazila on Wednesday night. SI Yunus was withdrawn from the police station last night and was attached to the District police line. District Police Superintendent Mohammad Abdul Wahab confirmed the incident and said that SI Yunus Ali was withdrawn from the police line last night and was added to the police line. A case will be filed against the fake police officer who gave the report.
According to eyewitnesses and police sources, on Wednesday evening, SI of Akklepur Police
Station Yunus Ali was doing evening duty in plain clothes at the Kocher intersection on
Akklepur-Joypurhat road in Akkelpur Pourashabha area. There he called his source Parvez Hossain. At that time, Parvez was wearing a police uniform and a light-reflecting vest and was checking the documents of the vehicles plying on the road. At around 8 pm, they signaled a motorcycle going from Akklepur to Joypurhat to stop. However, the motorcyclist ignored their signal and drove away. Then Parvez stopped another motorcycle rider and chased the motorcyclist who had ignored the signal. After chasing some distance, they stopped at Hali intersection. At that time, the locals stopped Parvez as he was acting suspiciously. When asked about his identity, he claimed to be a policeman. When the locals wanted to see his ID card, he claimed himself a policeman again. After some time, SI Yunus Ali went to the spot to rescue him. The locals said that he was from our police station, so they let him go. This led to an argument with the locals. As a result, both of them were fell in public violence and were thrashed. Later, on
receiving the news, the police rescued him around 9 pm and took him to the police station.
Arrested police source Parvez Hossain was identified as son of Nazrul Islam of Chakbane village in Badlagachhi upazila of Naogaon district. Hasem Ali, a resident of Hali intersection area of Kanupur, said that for the past few days, SI Yunus Ali has been stopping various vehicles and motorcycles on the road with his source and taking bribes in the name of showing documents. Today, they stopped a businessman and forced him to put drugs in his pocket. Later, fearing that he would be taken to the police station, they demanded money, he paid. When he chased another motorcyclist and came here, the locals became suspicious. Later, the locals gave him a public wash and handed him over to the police station. Officer-in-charge (OS) of Akklepur Police Station Mainul Islam said that after receiving the news, the police went to the scene, rescued him and brought him to the police station. Legal action will be taken against the two people.
