Brick, sand, cement loot hinders house construction in Rupganj
It has been alleged that the construction of a house in Rupganj, Narayanganj, was stopped due to non-payment of the demanded extortion money and bricks, sand, and cement were looted.
The attack and looting took place in the Pitalganj area of the upazila on Wednesday morning.
It is learned that Mishir Ali and his family members from the Pitalganj area were constructing a pucca house on land that had been in their possession for a long time. On Wednesday morning, 40 to 50 people employed by the Ashalaya Housing and Developers Limited housing project obstructed the construction work. At that time, the construction workers ran away in fear of the attackers. Then, they abused and threatened them and at one point broke the wall of the house under construction. Later, they looted the bricks, sand, and cement.
Mishir Ali, a resident of Pitalganj village and owner of the disputed land, said, “We have been living peacefully for 70 years by occupying and building houses. In the meantime, a housing company called Ashalaya Housing and Developers Limited filed a case in the court claiming ownership of the land. The verdict came in our favor in those cases. On Wednesday, when we went to build a pucca house on that land, the people of the housing company, the brokers Monir and Shamim, stopped us. Later, the attackers intimidated the construction workers and looted bricks, sand, and cement from the scene.
In this regard, Shamim Mia of Pitalganj area said, “When we went to build a house on the land of the housing company, the responsible people blocked us and removed the bricks. However, I am not involved in this incident.”
