Foreign cigarettes worth 10 crore taka seized at Chittagong port!

The Chittagong Custom House has seized 740 cartons of cigarettes from a container arriving at Chittagong port.
On Sunday, December 1, these cigarettes were recovered from a 20-foot long container arriving from Thailand at Chittagong port in the name of a factory in Pabna EPZ. The dutiable value of which is 1.5 crore, against which the revenue amount is 9 crore. Rajib Hasan, Assistant Commissioner of Chittagong Customs, confirmed this information. According to customs sources, based on the confidential information received by the Commissioner of Chittagong Custom House, the Audit, Investigation and Research (AIR) branch through risk management analyzed the exporter’s website, country of origin, importer’s business type and address, and product description and got an initial idea about the presence of falsely declared products in this consignment. Then, around 3 pm, with the help of the port authority, the AIR team forcefully stopped the container arriving in the name of Khyati Leather Innovations BD Limited and started a physical examination.
Representatives from the Port Authority, Port Security, C&F Agents Association, Shipping Agents and various organizations were present at the time. During this time, 740 cartons of Lamer brand Nano Silver, Gray, Blue and White flavors, 74,000 cigarettes were recovered from the container.
