Contractor’s face to face with railway tender in CTG; RAB-Police Deployed
Tensions are increasing day by day over the railway tender in Chottogram. On the last day of tender submission, multiple groups appeared at CRB in droves. There was an attempt to establish dominance and various allegations against each other. There were also allegations of being taken away at this time. Later, police and RAB were deployed to handle the situation.
On Thursday morning (November 28), contractors appeared in droves on the last day of tender submission for the onboard service of Teesta and Kalni Express trains.
It is learned that the last time for submission of tenders was till 12 noon. Even then, some people showed up after the scheduled time.
A contractor claims that when he came to CRB to submit the tender, he was picked up and made to sit somewhere else by people from another contractor. When the time was up, he was given a son. Many people made counter-complaints. They claim that many who controlled railway contractors during the previous Awami League government are still active.
Some railway officials who did not want to be named said that for the last 16 years, railway contracting work was under the control of Awami League and its affiliated organizations. There have been many conflicts, clashes and loss of lives over dominance. After the change of government, several groups are active in asserting dominance.
However, assuring that transparency will be ensured in the tender, General Manager of Eastern Railway Nazmul Islam said, “I do not know what happened outside, but the contractors submitted their tenders in our office fairly and neatly.”
