Nationwide Crackdown on Illegal Polythene

Following the declaration by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, a nationwide crackdown on banned polythene is underway. Between November 3 and 26, 2024, a total of 162 mobile court drives were conducted across the country. These operations resulted in fines totaling BDT 19,16,300 imposed on 336 establishments. Additionally, approximately 38,178 kilograms of polythene were seized.
In Dhaka, 13 mobile courts led by Department of Environment Executive Magistrates Kazi Tamjid Ahmed, Sultana Saleha Sumi, and Fayzunnesa Akter targeted illegal polythene production and distribution. The drives penalized 27 establishments with fines amounting to BDT 86,500 and seized around 3,980 kilograms of polythene.
