Tobacco cultivation in Lalmonirhat district is reducing land fertility. Tobacco poisoning is having an adverse effect on the environment. In addition, health risks are increasing in farming families.
In this regard, Dr. Md. Saikhul Arifin, Deputy Director of the Lalmonirhat Agricultural Extension Department, said that last year, tobacco was cultivated on more than 9,000 hectares of land in Lalmonirhat. Farmers are becoming interested in tobacco cultivation as they get more profit without capital. For this, the Agriculture Department has made farmers aware in various ways, but tobacco cultivation is not decreasing.
