Engineer Humayun Kabir Majumdar, the chief engineer of the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) distribution southern region, has been accused of threatening journalist Monirul Islam Munna, working in Chittagong, for publishing the news. The victim journalist filed a general diary in the city’s Double Mooring Police Station on Thursday (November 21). He works as a staff reporter for the regional daily Purbadesh in Chittagong.

In the GD, journalist Munna mentioned that on October 31, a news item titled “Biddut Bibhagee Fesibader dosor-ra Bohal Tobiote” was published on the front page of the daily Purbadesh. After the news item was published, the defendant invited him to the office through Assistant Director (Public Relations) Md. Akbar Hossain. Then, the accused chief engineer called Humayun to Kabir’s room and threatened to take action against him in the future for publishing the news item, including his arrogant behavior.

In this regard, Monirul Islam Munna said, “A person like the Chief Engineer cannot call me and insult me ​​like this. If the news goes against me, there can be anger against the organization or the reporter. But it could have been given in the form of a protest letter. But if the Power Department does not do so, the Chief Engineer cannot call me after 20 days to vent his anger for a planned insult.”

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Double Mooring Police Station Kazi Md. Rafiq Ahmed said, “A journalist named Monirul Islam Munna has filed a GD. We will investigate and take legal action.”
