Secretary General of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today laid emphasis on holding a neutral and acceptable election within quickest possible time.

“There is no alternative to a neutral and acceptable election for our sustenance as a nation,” he said while addressing as the chief guest a discussion of National People’s Party (NPP) marking its 17th founding anniversary at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) auditorium at Segun Bagicha in the capital.

Mirza Fakhrul said, “A big challenge before us is to restoring a democratic system in the country, because, we are all political activists.”

“We do politics for the country and its people. So, we expect that you (interim government) will hold an acceptable election within a short period of time,” he added.

NPP Chairman Dr. Fariduzzaman Farhad was in the chair while Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General Maulana Abdul Halim, Labor Party Chairman Mostafizur Rahman Iran and Jatiyatabadi Gonotantrik Party Chairman Valiant Freedom Fighter Khandaker Lutfar Rahman spoke on the occasion.

BNP secretary general said state reform or repair or whatever it is said, should be enduring.
“We are going through a difficult time. Any emotional task can put the state in danger,” he said.

He noted that the interim government has been constituted without any representation of the political parties, and without the participation of the political parties no reform can be successful.

“Moreover, the politics of Bangladesh is not easy,” he observed saying his party is working with patience to deal with the situation.

Mirza Fakhrul, however, said that the interim government is sincerely working for reforming different areas.

Fakhrul said, it would be wrong to say that the advisory council of this government has done nothing. They have already announced the search committee to form the Election Commission (EC), he said.

“We had expected that the search committee would be constituted after discussions with the political parties. But it had not been done,” he said.

“It’s our firm conviction that the interim government has no different political agenda. The countrymen love Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus. That’s why he must be careful so that his position is not lost to the countrymen.”

He hoped that the members of the reform committees will soon reveal all reports before the people.

Nothing should be done which is conflicting with the country and its culture, he added. source : bss
