Noakhali’s floods and permanent waterlogging have broken the record of last 50-60 years. Noakhali has suffered the most damage in the flood. The amount of damage is 4 thousand 191 crores. The flood has subsequently prolonged the inundation situation of the district.
The locals have demanded immediate action against the encroachment of the canal, multi-storied buildings on the canal, unplanned construction of culverts and dams.
It has been seen on the ground that there is knee-deep water in Ward No. 8 of Chaumuhani Municipality of Begumganj Upazila of the district.
Locals complain that there are many gaps in the documents of the Revenue Department of the Deputy Commissioner but in reality there are none.
Deputy Commissioner Khandatar Ishtiaq Ahmed said that after the flood, some structures on the canal have been removed from several places in different upazilas with the help of local people. Canal cleaning has also been done to facilitate water flow. Plans are under way to gradually de-encroach and renovate the canal.
